US DOE taps HP Enterprise for supercomputer
HP Enterprise was selected in December 2021 by the US Department of Energy to construct a supercomputer for its National Renewable Energy Laboratory, which aims to accelerate discovery of renewable power. The Kestrel supercomputer will utilize the HPE Cray EX system to advance modeling, simulation, AI analytics to accelerate insights in renewable energy. The computer, which is forecast to be completed in 2023, will deliver 44 petaflops of peak performance, which is five times greater than the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s current system, and feature 75 petabytes, or 75,000 terabytes
