Die Sanitär- und Heizungsinstallationsbranche konnte in den vergangenen fünf Jahren dank günstiger Marktbedingungen und staatlicher Förderung der energetischen Wende wachsen. Verantwortlich dafür war in erster Linie die dynamische Entwicklung des Wohnungsbaus in der ersten Hälfte des vergangenen Fünfjahreszeitraums. Die infolge der Urbanisierung anziehende Nachfrage nach Wohnraum führte in Verbindung mit einem stark gesenkten Leitzinssatz der Europäischen Zentralbank (EZB) und den deshalb niedrigen Effektivzinssätzen für Wohnungsbaukredite zu einer verstärkten Bauaktivität. Im Zuge der staatlichen Förderung von energieeffizienteren Heiz- und Sanitärsystemen konnte vor allem in der zweiten Hälfte des Fünfjahreszeitraums bei gleichzeitig steigenden verfügbaren Einkommen privater Haushalte ein Anstieg der Nachfrage nach den Dienstleistungen der Branche verzeichnet werden. Branchenkunden fragten insbesondere thermische Solarkollektoranlagen, Biomassebrennwertkessel und Wärmepumpen nach, da sich mit diesen die gestiegenen Heizkosten gering halten lassen. Der Branchenumsatz erhöhte sich in diesem Zeitraum um durchschnittlich 3,2 % pro Jahr. Die abkühlende Bautätigkeit, vor allem im Gebäudebau, hat das Wachstum der Branche zuletzt etwas gedämpft und den Preiswettbewerb verschärft, was auch zu einer leichten Verringerung der Gewinnmargen geführt hat.
