Flower Foods Inc. experienced challenges throughout the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic
Flower Foods Inc. continuously monitored its operations throughout the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Although the company benefitted from the competitive pricing it offered and the positive shift toward retail products that are branded, its sales declined compared with fiscal 2020 sales. As coronavirus-related shutdown and restaurants restrictions have eased, the company’s nonretail sales have recovered. Moreover, the company assisted frontline workers during the coronavirus pandemic, paying $12.3 million in 2020 to employees, contract workers and leased labor workers for bonus. Comparatively, the company spent $5.2 million on these bonuses in 2021.
COVIDIn response to volatile demand in the wake of the first COVID-19 surge, the company undertook a comprehensive cost reduction program, aimed at shoring up labor and supply costs.
