HeidelbergCement makes $7.5 billion acquisition of Italcementi
Due to the heavy weight of cement, aggregates and concrete in relation to their price, the distribution of these materials is generally confined to the local regions in which production occurs. Therefore, HeidelbergCement has taken action to expand its geographic reach and accelerate overall growth by purchasing Italcementi S.p.A (Italcementi) in 2016 for $7.5 billion. Italcementi is an Italy-based producer of cement, concrete and aggregate that has operations in 22 countries and strong market positions in France, Italy, the United States and Canada. The combination of the two organizations created one of the largest building materials companies in the world.
