According to Richard Sterling, "Procurement has not had a positive image with C-suites for many years. Seen as being divorced from corporate strategy procurement is accused of failing to create value." He quotes a June 2017 study by Ayming in which a whopping 83% of respondents stated that they do not believe their procurement function is strategically-focused.

In his article, Sterling also lists six ways procurement can show value with stakeholders throughout their organization, including:

  4. Supplier Relationship Management (SRM)
  5. Collaboration

  7. Bridge Building & Communications
