Industry Report - Industry Products Chapter

Industry products are segmented by their end uses rather than type of plastic. Most bottles are made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET), high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) depending on the desired packaging of each product. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, which are transparent, are used for products where glass-like clarity is valued and shelf stability is required (e.g. carbonated soft drinks, sports drinks, juices and iced teas). High-density polyethylene (HDPE) bottles, which are mildly stiff and impact resistant with a great moisture barrier, are often used to package products such as motor oil, certain food products, chilled juices, frozen juice concentrates and fabric care, dish care and personal care products.
