This month, we caught up with Bryan M. Fleming, CPA/ABV, ASA, CGMA, CrFA, Manager of Business Valuation at PCE, to find out what’s going on in the valuation and advisory world.

IBISWorld: What challenge(s) do you and your company or department face right now?

Bryan M. Fleming: As PCE is currently involved in several litigation cases which require an expert in both business valuation and economic damages analysis, my personal challenges relate to several upcoming engagements involving testimony before state and federal courts, and the IRS in matters of corporate finance.

IW: How does/might IBISWorld help you overcome this challenge?

BMF: We value many types of businesses across numerous industries. I need to know that I am getting reliable and relevant industry and economic information that meets the standard of wide market acceptance; IBISWorld fulfills that need.

IW: What do you foresee happening in your industry within the next year?

BMF: There is a very strong trend in the valuation industry towards the use of advanced decision tools such as decision trees, real options, simulation, and econometric analysis that help us to think more flexibly about complicated problems. We have equipped ourselves with knowledge and tools appropriate to such challenges.

IW: Tell us something interesting about yourself (hobbies, experiences, travel, etc.)

BMF: I spent two months on a diplomatic mission to Indonesia in 2012 on behalf of the US Agency for International Development, where I educated officers of the Ministry of Finance and appraisal industries in matters of International Financial Reporting and Fair Value Analysis. I am an honorary member of Masyarakat Profesi Penilai Indonesia, the Indonesian Society of Capital Markets Appraisers.
