Soaring government demand for satellite images led to increased federal investment in this industry over the past five years. The industry's largest client, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), negotiated new contracts with the two satellite imaging service providers, GeoEye Inc. and Digital Globe Inc. The new contracts, called EnhancedView, support the continued development of industry products. The NGA also supported significant industry growth in the five years to 2012, at an annualized pace of 15.2% to $735.5 million. This growth includes a 4.1% growth rate in 2012, primarily supported by commercial growth.
