Many companies in this industry provide general non-destructive testing (NDT) services to clients across a spectrum of industries. Still, this services segment stayed fairly constant over the past five years, declining from 57.9.% of total industry services in 2008 to 57.0% in 2013. A slowdown in demand due to the Great Recession led industry operators to offer specialized services that require highly skilled technicians instead of general NDT services that clients were more likely to bring in-house.
