Over the past five years, the Refrigerated Storage industry performed relatively well and only faced minimal recessionary declines. Industry revenue is expected to grow an average of 1.7% per year to $5.9 billion over the five years to 2012. Growth stayed positive in every year except 2009, with peak growth of 4.7% in 2010. Despite the fall in revenue during the worst of the recession, the industry benefited from relatively consistent demand from downstream industries and slowly increasing consumer spending. An expansion in total refrigerated storage capacity has also supported revenue growth. After growth in 2010 and 2011, revenue will continue to rise 2.5% in 2012.
