In the first seven months of 2011, industry revenue increased by over 40% from 2010. Industry revenue is expected to increase by 16.8% to $1.96 billion for the whole year.
In 2010, Nanchang, Haerbin, Shenyang, Tianjin and Lanzhou will all begin promoting smoke-free environments, and this is estimated to have negatively affected sales of tobacco, which will have a flow-on effect for the Tobacco Leaf Processing industry. There is virtually only one product in the Tobacco Leaf Processing industry. Flue-cured tobacco with separated stems and leaves refers to tobacco leaf pieces that have been stemmed and then redried, which is called the refreshing redrying process.
Products from stick redrying, normal flue-cured tobacco previously made up a small portion of the market. However, the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration announced reforms of the tobacco leaf manufacturing chain. One of the requirements in the reform was to popularize refreshing redrying processes and facilities, while all stick redrying activities were to be stopped by 2003.
