The Thermal Power Generation industry in China accounted for about 79.5% of the country's total electricity generation in 2010, down from 83.2% in 2006 due to higher levels of hydroelectricity generation and tighter regulations on energy saving and emission reduction. The industry generated 3.33 trillion kilowatt hours of electricity in 2010, which is forecast to increase to 3.74 trillion kilowatt hours in 2011.
Domestic consumption of electricity totaled 4,199.9 trillion watts in 2010, up 14.8% from 2009, according to the China Electricity Council. The number of enterprises operating within the industry was expected to decline by an average annual rate of 1.5% over the same period.
