The Paper and Paperboard Manufacturing industry in China experienced healthy growth during the first three quarters of 2008. However, the global recession in the fourth quarter of 2008 negatively affected this industry, with monthly output of machine-made paper and paperboard in October, November and December decreasing by 2.1%, 1.9%, and 4%, respectively, from the same months in 2007. Despite this, industry revenue increased by 15% to $63.81 billion and production of machine-made paper and paperboard increased by 7.7% to 83.9 million tons by the end of 2008.
