Since the Chinese Government loosened control over the production of cellular phone handsets in 2003, domestic production rates have soared from 245.9 million sets to an estimated 1.30 billion sets in 2011. Since the Chinese Government relaxed its control over the production of mobile phone handsets in 2003, production rates have soared. According to the statistics released by the Ministry of Information Industry, China's production of mobile phones reached one billion sets in 2010, about 62.5% more than in the previous year.
