Increased computer usage has negatively affected demand for printed magazines and periodicals. The Magazine and Periodical Publishing industry is highly concentrated in China. About 30% of magazine and periodical publishers are located in Beijing, due to its large market. Beijing also accounted for almost 50% of total industry revenue. Many publishers located in other regions in China also established branches in Beijing to gain market share. Private and shareholding publishers in North China held a combined share of 13.5% of the total in 2008. Around 93.1% of publishers in Beijing employed less than 50 staff in 2008.
