Many presses merged into regional groups publishing books across a wide range of fields. This increased industry concentration has led to higher barriers to entry in regional markets.

Culture, science, education, and sports titles
About 369,264 book titles will be published in China in 2012; of those, 36.1% of these will be books about culture, science, education and sports. Of that 36.1%, most will be textbooks and reference books used in schools. Schools and parents purchase large numbers of textbooks and reference books for children's education. According to China's General Administration of Press and Publications, 20.6% of total books published were textbooks in 2010.
Technical titles
