The geographic spread of auto repair franchises closely follows that of population. The Southeast, West, Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic regions combined account for 71.9% of establishments. Interestingly, a region's share of industry revenue is lesser than its share of population would suggest. For instance, the Southeast accounts for about 22.6% of industry revenue; although its share of the population (25.4%). The industry is under-represented in the Southeast region most likely due to the lower socio-economic status of many of these states, such as Mississippi and Alabama.
